MESSAGE TO PARENTS:
I would like to begin by saying thank you to all parents who have taken the time to seek out this website. This page is designed to give parents full access to what their child is learning in their Health and Fitness class. If you would like to see specifically what your son or daughter is being asked to do this week, you can look at the page titled ”Digital Agenda.” The digital agenda page will give you a direct link to our Google Classroom, which is where all of our digital assignments are posted. There will also be a description of which California state standard we are addressing that day, and how we are accomplishing this. My personal goal for TEACH Academy of Technologies Health and Fitness class is to instill an understanding of why regular physical activity is essential to living a long and healthy life.
What will my child be learning in their Health and Fitness class?
-General health concepts
-Evaluations of their personal health and fitness levels
-Daily choices that effect their health
-Muscular strength exercises
-Muscular endurance exercises
-Postural correction exercises
New exercises will be introduced each week through the lessons. These will include a step by step breakdown of how to properly perform each movement, along with guiding pictures and a Youtube video for our visual learners. Most importantly, we will discuss which muscles are being used during each specific exercise, and why these muscles are needed for our overall health and well being.
Key Vocabulary Terms:
Calorie: The unit used to measure how much energy that foods will produce in the human body.
Malnutrition: a lack of vitamins and nutrients, can slow down development and growth.
Empty Calories: Calories taking up a lot of the daily calorie allowance while providing little in return. Does not contain enough vitamins and nutrients.
Anorexia: Occurs when a person obsessively eats minimal or no calories, because of the belief that they will lose weight.
Bulimia: Those with bulimia eat food, perhaps even excessively, and then purge it from their bodies by either throwing up or taking laxatives.
Binge Eating: People eat an enormous amount of food at one sitting.

Morals or values: Understanding the difference between right and wrong.
Nicotine: The addictive ingredient in cigarettes
Secondhand Smoke: Smoke that is inhaled by someone who is not smoking.
